- ➤ On April 4, 1957—68 years ago—short-statured people met downtown Reno and formed Little People of America to offer grants, job information, scholarships, and advocacy programs for people with dwarfism. 2NEWS
- ➤ Local organization My Hometown Heroes will host its second annual Breakfast of Champions on April 12 at South 40 in Reno to honor unsung heroes who help college-bound cancer survivors reach their dreams. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and a buffet starts at 9:45 a.m.—tickets cost $125 and include a copy of founder Danny Heinsohn’s book For A Reason documenting his journey through brain cancer. 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno and Reno Fire Department invite community members to an Emergency Preparedness Open House held today at Damonte Ranch High School from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Experts will teach fire safety skills including planning an evacuation route, assembling a go bag, creating defensible space, and preparing for power outages while children enjoy special activities. 2NEWS

- ➤ Reno officials said the city still owes about $212 million on the train trench project that has stretched over 20 years with payments scheduled until 2058. Stable sales tax revenue and fixed interest rates may allow earlier payoff—10 to 12 years sooner than planned. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ The Nevada Department of Corrections faces a staffing shortage that cost $60 million in overtime and left a $50 million gap as NDOC Director James Dzurenda testified at a hearing Thursday that a staffing study set for June will show even larger deficits. Lawmakers have criticized the plan and noted that one officer has already worked 1,600 overtime hours—raising concerns about safety and budget management. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ The USPS began changes on April 1 in Nevada that may cause mail delivery to slow by a day in some areas—while packages and certain mail classes will see more reliable service. More changes will come on July 1 as the agency works to cut costs and adjust service standards, and local operations remain unchanged. Reno Gazette Journal
