  • On Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. on March 31, 2024—Sparks held a ceremony to mark completed home repairs and honor the community's strength after an officer-involved shooting injured officers and damaged homes. City leaders and local groups worked together to repair properties, cover medical costs, and provide mental health support to those affected.  KRNV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A seven-year-old from Reno, identified as Adelyn Grimes, died at Diamond Peak Ski Resort on Saturday, March 29 after a falling boulder struck her and caused blunt force injuries to her neck and chest—emergency crews responded immediately and law enforcement is investigating the incident.  2NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • Washoe County deputies arrested Morgan Jack and Sierra Shopes on March 30 (at 12:15 p.m.) during a Sun Valley traffic stop after a Reno K9 officer alerted them to drug odors that led to a search finding paraphernalia and controlled substances including methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, and both are booked in the Washoe County Detention Facility.  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At 9:28 a.m. Monday, a magnitude 4.24 earthquake was recorded 50 miles northwest of Carlin, 71 miles east and northeast of Winnemucca, and 32 miles north of Battle Mountain — the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at UNR reported the event.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill called the Lock the Clock Act advanced out of committee Monday in the Nevada Legislature (backed by bipartisan lawmakers) and may let Nevada stick to standard time after November if passed, with sponsors saying that ending the twice-yearly clock changes will boost public health and safety.  KRNV
  • The IRS issued advice on March 24 — including options such as Free File and volunteer tax help — to guide Reno taxpayers in filing their 2024 returns before the April 15 deadline. More than half of returns are expected to be filed with a tax professional to help avoid scams.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • Jacobs Entertainment announced Monday that all housing units at its renovated Gibson Building and planned Bonanza Inn project will be affordable—18 refurbished units at the Gibson Building now lease with rent capped at 80% of the area median income while the Bonanza Inn will offer 59 affordable units, making 67% of 184 units affordable.  KRNV
