- ➤ Food Truck Fridays will expand with two additional locations as organizers add Wednesday events at Cyan Park (south Reno) alongside Thursday events at North Valleys Regional Park. The food truck events will run every week from mid-June through early August (the additional dates were approved by the Washoe County Open Space and Regional Parks Commission). 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno announced its Biggest Little Spring Cleaning events and is partnering with HERO Environmental Services and Waste Management of Northern Nevada to let residents drop off household hazardous waste, electronics, and junk items. The events will be held on April 12 at Damonte Ranch High School, April 26 at O'Brien Middle School where hazardous waste is not accepted, May 3 at Reno High School, May 17 at McQueen High School, June 7 at Bernice Mathews Elementary, and June 14 at Mira Loma Park all from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. until bins fill up. - ➤ More than 1,700 Nevadans have reported UFO sightings, with reports coming from Reno, Sparks, and Las Vegas—many following rocket launches such as Starlink's 27-satellite flight on Wednesday. Another batch of satellites is planned from Vandenberg on Sunday or Monday, which could lead to more curious lights in the sky. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ The Food Bank of Northern Nevada said federal funding cuts reduced two key programs—about 1.1 million pounds of food was lost from the Local Food Purchase Cooperative Agreement Program and 350 thousand pounds from the USDA Commodity Credit Corporation. The nonprofit will seek additional food and monetary donations and talk with congressional leaders to prevent losing an extra 2.1 million pounds next year amid record demand from 160,000 people each month. 2NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers Sandra Jauregui and PK O’Neill introduced a bipartisan bill that lets people struggling with mental health voluntarily surrender their gun for at least 21 days—aimed at reducing firearm suicides—while also planning a measure to protect licensed dealers. The bill is designed to encourage safe action by providing an option during times of crisis. KUNR
- ➤ The Reno Police Department announced its newest K9 officer (its furriest team member) joined the law enforcement team yesterday. 2NEWS
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue announced that open burning — allowed with an approved permit — will run from April 1 to April 30 for residents in the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Residents must follow burn guidelines and obtain a 2024-2025 permit — weather permitting — before starting any burn. 2NEWS
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue crews will host a free public event to teach Reno homeowners how to create defensible space by removing overgrown vegetation at Swill Coffee & Wine on April 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—ResQ magazine is accepting free program applications for seniors and veterans. 2NEWS
