COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Washoe County Sheriff’s Office H.O.P.E Team launched the Clean Path Initiative to boost public safety and help unhoused residents in northern Nevada by providing a seven-day supply of food, water and trash bags in exchange for cleaning encampments. Early efforts removed 15 cubic yards of debris in one day.  2NEWS

  • Jimmy Beans Wool will soon close its Reno location (affecting 14 employees) as announced on Mar. 26.  2NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • More than 60 companies recruited local job seekers at the Northern Nevada Career Fair (organized by Northern NV Jobs) yesterday to expand employment opportunities in Reno. Attendees connected with employers and explored available positions.  2NEWS
  • Gas prices in Reno climbed to $5.13 a gallon — six cents more than yesterday and above Nevada’s average of $4.86.  2NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews completed a 20-acre burn yesterday and are set to carry out a 40-acre prescribed burn today in Galena Creek, leaving visible smoke—officials advise using the Thomas Creek trail rather than the Jones/Whites Creek trail while monitoring continues.  KRNV
  • The U.S. Forest Service is conducting controlled burns near Galena Creek through today -- residents may see smoke in the area.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada’s growth and infrastructure committee met Wednesday to discuss the state’s data center boom, as community members and industry reps like Google raised concerns over high energy and water use — no new restrictions were decided yet.  KRNV
  • Attorney General Aaron D. Ford warned that gas prices might be raised unlawfully as global tensions impact fuel markets (a focus for stricter consumer protection) and said his office will use existing laws to check price manipulation while urging drivers to file complaints if they notice suspicious hikes.  2NEWS
  • The Reno Fire Department recorded 57,044 calls in 2025 as detailed in its report released on March 26 — a record that reflects new equipment, expanded testing, and staffing shifts. Chief Dave Cochran said these measures have helped manage a wide range of emergencies in our growing community.  2NEWS
  • Reno-Tahoe International Airport said screening times remained normal despite government shutdown concerns that raised fears smaller airports might close. Officials advised travelers to arrive two hours early as usual during busy spring break.  Reno Gazette Journal
