COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shop owners donated all money raised during Jersey Mike's Month of Giving to local charities that support Special Olympics Nevada. A wind advisory is in effect today from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.—strong winds may blow unsecured items and cause power outages.  2NEWS
  • Washoe County Open Space and Regional Parks Commission approved a food truck event on Thursdays at North Valleys Regional Park that will run from June 12 to August 7. Reno Street Food, LLC will promote the event—featuring six to eight food vendors, two dessert vendors, and one alcohol vendor—to give local visitors a new dining option.  2NEWS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire on Tupelo Street in Lemmon Valley early Tuesday evening destroyed about 30% of a home and displaced one resident and a pet—fire crews reported no injuries as they continued investigating the cause.  2NEWS

  • Rodrigo Inostroza-Soto, 52, was arrested for the murder of a 52-year-old woman whose body was found on March 25th in Reno—police say the incident appears isolated.  KRNV
  • Early Monday morning around 2:45 a.m. on March 24, Washoe County deputies answered a call at a home in Incline Village where a woman reportedly hit two people—scratching one victim’s face and striking another with a beer bottle—before she was found in a ditch and arrested at the detention facility.  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washoe County School Board is updating its smoking policy to limit vaping among younger students — a change aimed at addressing new technology trends. A wind advisory warns that southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph will affect the Reno area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today — unsecured items may be knocked down and travel could be difficult.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Joe Lombardo introduced a bill for $200 million to fund attainable housing — the plan provides mortgage assistance, rental support, eviction help, and programs to help essential workers buy homes. The legislation will also boost renters' credit scores — and assist rural counties in addressing contractor labor shortages.  KUNR
  • Reno City Council received an update on its eviction diversion pilot program—designed to help people applying for rental assistance stay in their homes. A wind advisory is in effect today for the Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. PDT as southwest winds may knock down loose items and tree limbs.  2NEWS
  • Douglas County Search and Rescue teams are looking for a missing hiker in the Spooner Summit area today — deputies have asked locals to avoid the area to help the search, and officials will update as new details become available.  2NEWS
