Good morning, Reno. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 24th of March.

  • The Reno Rabbit Rescue cared for 24 abandoned rabbits and hosted a Hoppy Hour event on March 23 at South Valley Library where families met the bunnies. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Although over $3 billion has been spent on more than 800 projects to protect Lake Tahoe, its water clarity has dropped by more than a third since 1968 due to pollutants and rising tourism, and critics say the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is now favoring economic growth over restoration. New funding of $300 million and more than $2 billion in planned projects will continue as debates grow over whether the increased focus on tourism will further harm the lake’s health — a concern echoed by environmental experts.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Local fire officials warned that if a major wildfire strikes Lake Tahoe, evacuating the crowded basin could take 14 hours and nearly every property would be at risk—putting both residents and tourists in danger. Developers are planning new resorts in these high-risk zones, which raises concerns about the limited escape routes available during a fire.  Reno Gazette Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over one hundred Reno letter carriers gathered on Sunday in downtown Reno to protest plans to privatize the Postal Service—organizers say the change would hurt vital delivery services like newspaper and ballot delivery for seniors. The group marched from City Plaza to Virginia Street Bridge to demonstrate their opposition.  KRNV
