COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Easter Egg Festival will take place next Saturday in Reno and is free to attend while organizers accept donations to support at-risk and homeless youth; local families can join to help boost community support plus enjoy the event.  2NEWS
  • Reno’s Biggest Little Egg Dive returns on Saturday, March 28 at the Northwest Pool on Apollo Way with two sessions (RecConnect members from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and a public hunt from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.) featuring Easter egg hunts with treats and spring-themed poolside activities.  2NEWS

  • Boomer's Sportsbook opens at the Grand Lodge Casino at the Hyatt Regency in Lake Tahoe — guests can place bets in person or sign up for the mobile app to enjoy a modern betting experience. Visitors are encouraged to check out the new offering today.  2NEWS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Starting in October, Pioneer Center will host seven Broadway shows as part of its Broadway Comes to Reno series, beginning with Water for Elephants on Oct. 25. Staff worked with Broadway and Nederlander National Markets LLC for two and a half years—ensuring local audiences get timely access to top productions.  2NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Nevada spokesperson John Treanor said gas prices have jumped since early March as stations switch to a more expensive summer blend and adjust fuel costs linked to events in Iran; some vendors update prices throughout the day based on order timing.  KRNV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bishop Manogue High School & former Miners basketball coach Sara Ramirez reached an agreement to settle a wrongful termination case over alleged racial discrimination. The settlement will be finalized by month’s end and its terms will remain confidential.  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NV Energy submitted its third triennial Natural Disaster Protection Plan to the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN), outlining investments for 2027-2029 to boost grid safety and emergency response. The plan targets risk reduction from wildfires and extreme weather.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sue Wagner, Nevada’s first elected female lieutenant governor (a trailblazer for women), died Tuesday at 86. She served in the Legislature from 1975 to 1989 and helped shape the state’s political landscape.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • City officials are considering a modernization project for the Reno Arch by updating its lighting and electrical system with a dedicated redevelopment fund (aiming to simplify maintenance and cut yearly costs). The plan is under review today.  KRNV
  • The Reno Fire Department is training crews to master engine driving & pump operations for improved response. Firefighters say this training tackles one of the most complex parts of their job.  2NEWS
  • On March 2, the Washoe Library Board selected former East Coast library director Lisa McClure as its new head pending contract negotiations that include background and reference checks. The library does not yet have an official start date.  Reno Gazette Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Unseasonably warm March weather is forcing Tahoe ski resorts to adjust their closing dates; some will shut down as early as Mar. 22 while others remain open until late April or even Memorial Day (Homewood closed on Mar. 17).
