COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Paddy and Irene's Irish Pub closed its doors on St. Patrick's Day—after nearly 30 years in Sparks—following financial struggles and a shortfall from a GoFundMe campaign. The final day saw the Luciano family staff the pub—marking the end of a local legacy.  KRNV
  • The Nevada Division of State Parks invites the public to review the Draft Sand Harbor State Park Master Plan online — comments must be submitted by April 14 — to help guide future park changes. The interactive presentation — designed for community input — lets residents submit feedback by email or mail.  KRNV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Forever 21 filed for bankruptcy on March 16 and said it will close all its U.S. stores, including its two locations in Reno and Sparks, as it begins liquidation sales. Meadowood Mall staff noted that customers have until April 5 to redeem gift cards — a key final step before the stores shut down.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • A shooting at the Nugget in Sparks killed one person and injured another on Mar 17, 2025 according to live reports.  2NEWS
  • Reno Police arrested a 31-year-old woman near the Peppermill casino on Sunday night after she shot a man and tried to run when officers arrived at 8 p.m.—the victim was taken to a nearby hospital and no public threat remains.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assembly Bill 409 proposes to expand special license plates to include Space Force veterans and their immediate families—extending benefits beyond those for veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The bipartisan bill will be heard in Carson City today and would allow combining personalized prestige plates with those honoring family members of service members killed or injured on active duty.  KRNV
  • The Nevada Department of Transportation invites residents to a virtual public information meeting from March 17 to April 17 on phase two of the U.S. 395 widening project in the North Valleys and offers an in-person open house on April 1 at O’Brien Middle School from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Construction for phase two is expected to begin as early as 2026 and will include adding lanes, new traffic signals, and pavement repairs—lane reductions and ramp closures will occur during work.  KRNV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health launched an initiative that supplies sensory-friendly vaccine kits to help people with disabilities ease anxiety during shots — each kit includes items like fidget toys and noise-canceling headphones and will be free to immunization providers with delivery expected within two to four weeks.  KRNV
