ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Nevada Highway Patrol responded Friday night to a wrong-way driver who hit two cars and injured three drivers on I-580 at Mill Street—troopers suspect the driver was impaired—and closed the highway at the scene.  2NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • The Washoe County Sheriff warns that vehicle burglaries at parks—where suspects open unlocked doors or break windows—rose in February as items left in plain view make tempting targets and advises people to leave valuables at home until deputies arrive.  KRNV
  • Reno Police arrested a suspect after responding to a call about someone threatening to shoot officers - officers found the suspect barricaded in a bedroom in an apartment on Ryland Street Friday evening.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, the Education Department announced it is investigating dozens of schools for alleged race-exclusionary practices in academic programs and scholarships — one of those being UNLV. University of Nevada, Reno said it will await further details before deciding if it faces a similar review.  Reno Gazette Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked Sparks Marina with about 3,000 brown trout. A high wind watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening with gusts up to 65 mph — residents should secure loose outdoor items as power outages and travel problems are possible.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Reno City Council unanimously approved the Oppidan Data Center at North Virginia Street and Stead Boulevard—making it the second North Valleys data center after a planning commission denied the project over water and power concerns, with NV Energy and Truckee Meadows Water Authority backing its planned use of 8 megawatts and 8 acre-feet per year.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • The City of Reno is hiring lifeguards and swim instructors to fully staff pools for the Spring-Summer 2025 season — candidates must be at least 15 years old and will receive city-funded training with pay ranging from $15.50 to $21.00 per hour.  2NEWS
