COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The South Valley Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4 at the south end of Washoe Lake State Park, where children ages 0 to 12 and their families will search for over 3,000 candy-filled eggs and meet the Easter Bunny at 11:30 a.m. before the hunt begins at 12 p.m.  2NEWS
  • The Domestic Violence Resource Center is building a 41,000 sqft facility on Vassar Street to expand its shelter from 25 to 100 beds; it broke ground in November and will open in June 2027 + the center will have private rooms, support spaces, and separate facilities for children and men.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Community members voiced concerns over plans to build nearly 800 homes on the current Red Hawk Golf Course site. A preservation group will hold a public meeting to discuss the redevelopment project.  2NEWS

  • Animal Ark will open March 24 and is expected to attract local visitors with its new animal exhibit space.  2NEWS

  • Grand Sierra Resort will host Street Heat, a four-day classic car and concert festival, from Aug. 5 to 8. The event features classic car exhibits, marketplace vendors, and concerts including Blue Öyster Cult + George Thorogood.  Reno Gazette Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A student at Bishop Manogue High School performed free shows of Mamma Mia! yesterday to entertain and inspire middle schoolers.  2NEWS
  • Washoe County Schools superintendent Joe Ernst will retire on July 7, leaving the district to start a search for a new leader to guide 60,000+ students. The district has cycled through four superintendents in the past decade, raising questions about consistent leadership.  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In a 250th birthday feature spotlighting Nevada's natural beauty, Lake Tahoe remains under strong protection as conservation groups + government agencies work to curb pollution and traffic from increasing visitors, urging everyone to help keep its iconic blue waters clear.  KRNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NV Energy asked the PUC to delay its peak demand charge until Oct. 1 — a change meant to give customers extra time to understand their energy use amid ongoing legal challenges. The charge was originally scheduled to start on April 1.  Reno Gazette Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • For Washoe County families, Spring Break will offer day trips such as visiting Lake Tahoe and attending Reno Aces games (March 27–29).   • The Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball team defeated Grand Canyon University in round two of the Mountain West Tournament on Mar. 12, advancing to the semis. The win set them on course for a chance at the tournament title.  2NEWS
