COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ USA Parkway at Innovation Way partially reopened Wednesday morning after a water main break, with one lane available in each direction and northbound lanes still closed for repairs (Storey County Sheriff's Office). Motorists should expect delays and use caution. KRNV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ SK Food Group announced that 209 workers at its facility on 5555 Quail Manor Court in Reno will be permanently laid off on April 30. The company notified the state under the federal WARN Act and will continue paying regular wages and benefits during the notice period. KRNV
- ➤ NV Energy asked regulators to delay its daily demand charge for residential customers from its planned start on April 1 to October due to needed customer education + preparation; the Public Utilities Commission will decide the request in coming weeks. KRNV
- ➤ Trader Joe’s will restock its popular large canvas tote bag in early April at the Shayden Summit mall in south Reno after a Valentine’s Day restock sold out quickly. This restock will feature only the regular tote with blue trim and will not include the new lavender variant. Reno Gazette Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County School District Superintendent Joe Ernst announced he will retire effective July 7 after a 32-year career in education. He will remain until the end of the school year to help ensure a smooth leadership transition. KRNV
- ➤ The NSHE Board of Regents approved a new policy that requires institutions to clearly label courses using free or low-cost learning materials. NSHE schools will update their registration systems by July 1 to help students plan for textbook expenses. KRNV
- ➤ Washoe County School District announced Superintendent Joe Ernst will retire effective July 7—ending a 32-year career and allowing him more time with his family. School board officials will meet soon to discuss the process for selecting his successor. 2NEWS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will start prescribed burns in Dog Valley near Verdi, Galena Creek southwest of Reno, and Clear Creek near Carson City this spring after final approvals and weather checks. Residents should expect temporary closures and occasional smoke as operations occur. KRNV
- ➤ The Nevada Department of Wildlife began stocking 5,000 Rainbow Trout at Sparks Marina's north boat ramp on Wednesday. The agency will continue adding fish through early summer — a measure to support local fishing. 2NEWS

- ➤ The City of Reno will host free bulky trash disposal events from selected schools on Mar. 21, Mar. 28, Apr. 18, Apr. 25, May 9 and May 16 from 9 a.m. + noon until containers fill. Residents should check accepted items before attending. 2NEWS

- ➤ The Food Bank of Northern Nevada has partnered with Anthem Blue Cross and Feeding America to launch its Prescription Pantry program that gives patients a prescription for healthy food during National Nutrition Month. - ➤ The inaugural REVEL Reno Tahoe Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K will take place May 17, with runners descending from Mt. Rose Highway to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
