COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A state fair will be held at the Nevada State Fairgrounds at the Livestock Events Center and Reno Rodeo Arena, with more details on dates and activities coming soon.  2NEWS
  • Reno-Tahoe International Airport has begun constructing new concourses as part of its MoreRNO program, and travelers are not expected to be delayed by visible work outside. The first concourse is set for completion in 2028 and the second in 2029 while existing facilities remain operational.  2NEWS
  • The official Nevada State Fair returns for the first time in 16 years at the Nevada State Fairgrounds in Reno from June 11 to 13; tickets go on sale starting April 15 and the event will celebrate agriculture with exhibits, a 4-H State Expo, and a farmers market.  KRNV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Reno jumped by six cents per gallon in a single day as surging oil prices drove the increase.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Nevada State Contractors Board hosted Hammers + Hope today to encourage young women to explore careers in construction. High school students from Reed, North Valleys, ACE and Fernley participated, and another event is scheduled later this week in Las Vegas.  2NEWS
  • The University of Nevada, Reno is exploring a veterinary medical school as part of a study to plan funding & accreditation by 2028; Executive VP Jeffrey Thompson will present the proposal at a Nevada System of Higher Education meeting tomorrow, March 5, to address local shortages.  Reno Gazette Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at UNR received a $9 million grant from the Department of Energy to study cactus pear as a water-saving biofuel — over the next five years they will test hundreds of cactus varieties from Arizona to Florida to see if it can be grown in arid regions.  KUNR
  • Officials carried out a prescribed burn near Mount Rose Highway on Mar. 3 — part of routine land management — to reduce wildfire risk.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada has won an exemption from SNAP work requirements—about 43,000 residents will keep receiving benefits as the state adjusts its eligibility rules.  2NEWS
  • NDOT shifted southbound U.S. 395 lanes near Clear Acre on-ramp on Tuesday, March 3—and drivers now must use the left lane when not exiting. The multi-year widening project continues through summer 2026 to improve traffic flow and safety, with further overnight lane and ramp changes planned.  KRNV
  • The Arlington Avenue Bridge Project nears completion in Reno as one of the biggest construction projects of the past year enters its final phase. Work will finish soon, marking a major milestone for the city's infrastructure.  2NEWS
