- ➤ A Tip-a-Cop fundraiser raised money for Special Olympics Nevada to support local athletes with special needs. The event was reported on Feb. 25 and highlighted community involvement in its cause. 2NEWS
- ➤ Actor Jeremy Renner visited Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue Station 45 in Sun Valley yesterday and firefighters gave him a tour + explained updates on their response systems. 2NEWS
- ➤ Baby's Bounty hosted a monthly diaper bank yesterday to offer diapers and wipes for families in need—local organizers note many in northern Nevada still face shortages. 2NEWS
- ➤ Girls on the Run (a program that builds confidence through exercise) is asking neighbors to donate shoes for local kids. The donation drive is ongoing today. 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno will use a $120,000 grant from the Reno Rodeo Association's Special Kids Fund to add new features for people with disabilities at Idlewild Park Splash pad. Construction will begin in September and finish by Spring of 2027. 2NEWS

- ➤ Reno City Council approved nominations for the East Fourth Street Historic District and Aitken House on Wednesday for National Register consideration. The sites show local historic value (from transit history and early community services) and will next be reviewed by the Nevada Board of Museums and History. 2NEWS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists reported that a rare Sierra Nevada red fox was spotted in Lake Tahoe Basin yesterday + the last sighting was in the mid-1900s, and experts say it may signal a growing population. 2NEWS

- ➤ The RTC invites public input on an $87 million Sun Valley Boulevard project upgrading the road from Scottsdale Road to 7th Avenue as it prepares for 2027 construction. Residents can send feedback online until March 27 and join the meeting (March 11, 4-7 p.m. at Hug High School in Sparks). 2NEWS
- ➤ K9 Odin from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office is retiring after five years of service; he assisted in patrol and special operations with Deputy Evans and will soon take on one final duty — watching over the Evans family, according to Sheriff Balaam's Facebook announcement on Wednesday. 2NEWS
- ➤ NDOT will begin repaving Pyramid Way in Sparks with improved sidewalks and flashing beacons starting in March; drivers should expect overnight lane reductions from 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. through Spring 2027. 2NEWS

- ➤ Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is reviving its 'Open Late' schedule for extra snow sports on Fridays and Saturdays starting Friday, Feb. 27. The resort will keep select lifts (Northwest, Lakeview, Wizard, Magic) open until 5:30 p.m. until March 8, then until 6 p.m. afterwards. 2NEWS
