  • Pinecrest Academy is hosting a bingo fundraiser to support first-grade teacher Natalie Jensen as she battles cancer. Community members are invited to help raise funds for her treatment costs.  2NEWS

  • Residents expressed concern over a proposal to replace a local golf course with housing. The plan, announced Jan. 13, has sparked community discussions as officials weigh options for new development.  2NEWS

  • Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines plan to merge and expand travel options for Reno customers with nearly 175 cities served by their combined networks. The $1.5 billion deal awaits federal approval – flight schedules will remain unchanged until the FAA issues a single operating certificate.  Reno Gazette Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washoe County seniors planning for college, university, vocational, or technical school can apply for five nonrenewable $2,000 scholarships offered by the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; applications must be postmarked by Feb. 17 (deadline).  2NEWS
  • On Jan. 13, 2026, the Washoe County School Board elected new leadership, and trustees discussed construction + modernization projects for several elementary schools.  2NEWS

  • NV Energy said on Jan. 13 it would refund overcharges starting June 2017 while PUC staff wanted customers made whole for charges dating back to 2002 with interest — a standoff that may lead to court action.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • The Washoe County Courthouse is celebrating America’s 250th birthday with monthly recitations of the Pledge of Allegiance on its historic steps — the first ceremony starts today at 8 a.m. when county commissioners and Judge Barry Breslow lead the presentation.  Reno Gazette Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Nevada Public Health is offering a free flu shot clinic in Reno this Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at its main clinic on 1001 E. 9th St. as flu activity remains high and recent flu-related deaths have been reported among older adults.  2NEWS
  • Frontier Treatment Center reopened Jan. 13 after a massive expansion that updated its facilities to better serve local residents.  2NEWS
